The famous French metal band Gojira played last night at the opening of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. They performed the song ‘Ah! Ça ira’ – a popular French anthem of the ‘sans-culottes’ from the French Revolution. The band has collaborated for this song with the opera singer Marina Viotti, who was masked as the guillotined Marie-Antoinette. The performance showcased fierce music and a spectacular vision, with many pyro effects, lights, colors, and dust effects. The band was on the roof of a castle, surrounded by the flames.
Gojira has set a precedent in the world of metal music – it is the first metal band to perform at the Olympic Opening Ceremony in the history of the Olympic Games. The band is founded in 1996 as Godzilla and has changed its name to Gojira in 2001. It is known for its philosophical, environmentally themed lyrics and progressive technical death metal. Gojira has a worldwide recognition and is one of the few French world-renowned metal bands.
