Today Bulgaria Says Farewell To The Musician Kiril Marichkov

The Bulgarian famous rock musician Kiril Marichkov passed away on Friday, October 11. Today hundreds of people went to pay homage to his remains. The accident happened at a concert of the band The Foundation in Selanovtsi village. As Marichkov went on stage, he fell down and he suffered a brain injury. He passed away in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.

Kiril Marichkov was born on October 30, 1944. He studied law and diplomacy in the Sorbonne in Paris and next in Lausanne. His had a great success as a musician is with his band “Shturcite”, where he was a vocalist, a bassist and a main composer. When the democratic changes came in 1989 in Bulgaria, he wrote the song “I am just a man”, which became a symbol of the democratic movement.

In 2010 Kiril Marichkov was rewarded with an Order of “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” first degree and in 2020 with Stara Planina Order, 1st degree, for particularly great merits in the field of culture and art. At his farewell ceremony came many famous musicians to take a last goodbye with their colleague and friend.
