The Swedish progressive metal band Opeth released their new album “The Last Will & Testament” on November 22nd, via Reigning Phoenix Music recording label. It is the fourteenth studio album of the band. The cover is created by the visual artist Travis Smith. It is a haunting “photograph” reminiscent of Stanley Kubrick’s infamous “Overlook Hotel” photograph. The album has an oriental death metal progressive sound, strange harmonies, changing rhythms, nervous syncopation, guitar improvisations with a dark atmosphere, mystic choruses and frightful demonic vocals. It is a concept work. The scenario is situated in the post World War I years. It starts with the reading of the legacy of a wealthy, conservative patriarch, whose wife is infertile. It reveals shocking family secrets and the consequences of them.
