Metal Weekend – June 13th and 14th at Maimunarnika Club, Sofia – Headliners are Dødheimsgard and Kampfar!

Yes, you read that right! The avant-garde Dødheimsgard and the legends of Norwegian pagan black metal Kampfar are coming to Bulgaria for the first time!
They are the headliners of Metal Weekend, which will take place on June 13th (Saturday) and June 14th (Sunday) at Maimunarnika Club, Sofia’s top outdoor summer concert location.
The Norwegian headliners on both days, Dødheimsgard and Kampfar, will present specially prepared long sets.
The first visit to our country will also be marked by the co-headlining band of the first day – the precision-piercing black metallers from Austria Theotoxin.
The bill also includes the Viking black metal band Ereb Altor from Sweden and the epic doom formation Isole, also from Sweden, as the two share common members.
The event’s lineup is complemented by the native melodic doom/death force Embrace By Dark.
Here is the program of the bands by day:

June 13, 2026, Saturday:

Dødheimsgard (NO) – Avant-garde/Black/Industrial Metal
Theotoxin (AU) – Black Metal
Embrace By Dark (BG) – Melodic Doom/Death Metal

June 14,.2026, Sunday:

Kampfar (NO) – Pagan/Black Metal
Ereb Altor (SWE) – Viking/Black Metal
Isole (SWE) – Epic Doom Metal

Metal Weekend has built its lineup out of respect for the broad metal scene and its subgenres, with the sound and stage presence of the six bands setting them apart from the general flow. They are united by one common trait – authenticity!

Who are they?

Dødheimsgard (DHG)

It is difficult to describe their avant-garde style and experimental artistic nature, and there is no need to. Black metal, industrial synthesizers, futuristic abstract visions… and one enigmatic figure at the forefront – that of vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Yusaf “Vicotnik” Parvez. DHG are “from another world”.

Theotoxin

The cutting edge of the contemporary black metal scene, the band’s growing popularity and solid concert record impress with their particularly aggressive sound and extremely intense live performances. Key elements in their style are the fast “blast beats”, which have earned them the designation of a “black/death metal hybrid”, and the precise speed guitars.

Embrace By Dark

A band whose history dates back to 1995 and runs parallel to the cult name of the native underground Desolate, whose members also created EBD. The concept of EBD has evolved over the years, and the foundation remains dark atmospheric music with memorable melodies and emotional vocals.

Kampfar

Formed in 1994, Kampfar are among the founders of Norwegian pagan black metal. They celebrated three decades on stage and the celebrations on the occasion will take place in 2026 under the title: Three Decades of True Norse Black Metal. Their roots are in the uncompromising Norwegian black metal and the Scandinavian tradition, with which they build their style – a unique blend of the icy harshness of black metal with folk melodies inspired by Norwegian nature and mythology. Their specific look is due to their “pagan” spirit, folk elements and the powerful, raw vocals of frontman Dolk.

Ereb Altor

Their epic and doom influences come to the fore. They are often referred to as naturally “taking over” from Bathory and preserving their legacy. Epic and mythical, their inspiration comes from the dark forests of Hälsingland, inhabited by – (ominous) creatures from ancient Scandinavian legends such as the (female) forest spirit/ruler Skogsrået… Their style is black, infused with majestic “Viking” folk…

Isole

The Swedish doom metal veterans have already visited our country in 2017, as have Ereb Altor. Core members Daniel Bryntse and Crister Olsson are also the driving force behind the EA project. Isole offer rich melancholic harmonies and heavy, crushing guitar riffs, combined with progressive elements, and the vocals are predominantly clean and sometimes rough/growling (growls). They are often compared to the pioneers of the genre Candlemass and Solitude Aeturnus.
