Swedish heavy metal veterans Lion’s Share return with the release of their long-awaited new studio album “Inferno”, out on March 27th, 2026, via Metalville on CD and vinyl. Coinciding with the album release, the band have also unveiled a new lyric video for the track “Chain Child” — a fan favorite that captures the raw spirit of classic heavy metal. “Inferno” marks Lion’s Share’s first full-length studio album in 17 years and sees the band delivering a powerful statement rooted in the timeless traditions of classic heavy metal.
Guitarist Lars Chriss explains:
“This album represents everything we love about heavy metal — the darkness, the melodies, the power and the drama. We didn’t want to chase trends. We wanted to make a record that feels honest and true to the music that shaped us.”
“Chain Child” – a heavy metal story brought to life
The track “Chain Child” embodies the classic heavy metal energy that runs throughout “Inferno”, drawing inspiration from the legendary sound of bands such as Saxon, Dio and Iron Maiden. The song tells the story of rival gangs clashing in the underworld, with the mysterious Chain Child emerging as the toughest of them all. The character has also become a recurring symbol in the band’s visual identity. The Chain Child appears as the band’s mascot on the artwork of their three most recent releases — including the cover of “Inferno”— instantly recognizable by its distinctive chain-like arms.
Vocalist Nils Patrik Johansson says:
“It’s a very visual story — gangs fighting in the shadows and this unstoppable character rising above them. That kind of imagery has always been a natural part of the heavy metal we grew up with.”
A return forged in classic heavy metal
Throughout “Inferno”, Lion’s Share channel the dramatic, riff-driven sound that defined the golden era of heavy metal between 1980 and 1987 — an influence heard clearly in tracks such as “Pentagram”, “Baptized In Blood” and “Chain Child”. Rather than revisiting the past as nostalgia, the band transform those influences into a powerful modern statement of classic heavy metal.
Early reactions to “Inferno” have been overwhelmingly positive, including a perfect 10/10 rating from UK’s Powerplay Magazine, praising the album as a blazing comeback from the Swedish metal veterans. The album has also already begun gaining traction on US metal radio ahead of its official release.
A respected legacy in European heavy metal
Formed in Sundsvall in 1987, Lion’s Share have built a respected reputation within the international heavy metal scene, touring alongside legendary acts such as Motörhead, Dio, Saxon, Manowar, U.D.O., Iced Earth, Nevermore and Dee Snider.
With the release of “Inferno”, the band are also returning to the live stage and have recently been confirmed for the legendary Sweden Rock Festival — the biggest rock festival in Sweden — alongside a series of Swedish live shows throughout 2026. With “Inferno, Lion’s Share deliver a triumphant return that reaffirms their place among Europe’s classic heavy metal acts.
