Jon Schaffer, the songwriter, the founder and the main power in bands such as Iced Earth, Demons & Wizards, Sons of Liberty, Jon Schaffer’s Purgatory and Schaffer/Barlow project has released a video for the song “Molon Labe” on June 16th. The song is from his new work – Schaffer’s “Sons Of Liberty – Thought Crimes (Volumes 1 & 2)”. It is a reimagined work, a combination between LP “Brush-fires Of The Mind” (2009) и EP “Spirit Of The Times” (2011).

The music of Sons of Liberty exposes the complex machinations of a fraudulent financial system and the insidious creep of authoritarianism. Jon Schaffer wanted to expose the financial and political systems that prosper through aggression and subjugate the people’s personal freedom.

In January 2021, Jon Schaffer and a group of people rioted at the U.S. Capitol. In October 2024, he was sentenced to three years of probation and 120 hours of community service. He had to pay $1,000 in restitution and a $200 financial assessment. Later he was one of the 1500 people connected with the riot at the U.S. Capitol who were pardoned by U.S. president Donald Trump. Many of his colleagues musicians stopped working with him.
